Our first family vacation!

This past weekend we went on our first family vacation to Houma, Louisiana.  We went to visit my Granny but saw lots of other family and friends while we were there!  We left on Friday, July 4, at 9:00 am (nap time) so that we would make it to the state line by 11:00 to feed the babies.  Here we are at the rest stop right after the Louisiana state line!

Mark borrowed some booster seats from his mom, so this was the set up when we fed them at the rest stop

We have never taken them on a long car drive, so we were expecting to have to stop every hour or so to get out and let them stretch.  To our surprise, they did great!  We got back in the car and drove for 3.5 more hours.  They napped, played with new toys, and did lots of talking.  Occasionally someone would start to fuss, but it wasn't much :)

My sister Amber and her family were staying with our cousin April and we stayed next door in April's sister's house with my parents and Alaina.  We had the house to ourselves because April's sister and her family were out of town for the weekend.  April's mom, Mrs. Shira, lives 2 houses down and she cooked for us!  It was way better than staying in a hotel :) We even had Kain, our 12 year old cousin, drive us on the golf cart whenever we needed to go to Mrs. Shira's house to eat, hang out or swim!

This is April and Tripp.  He loved E.T.!

Then we got dressed in 4th of July clothes

Then we went to Aunt Jeannie's house to visit with them, Granny and Pawpaw OJ.  Uncle John let the babies play the piano!

Aunt Jeannie and Granny got the babies toys, snacks, outfits, and set up a pool for them in the backyard!  Ella skipped swimming because of her ear infection.  Emily, Tripp and Gwen had lots of fun!

Then we went back to the house, fed the babies bottles and put them to bed.  We had 3 pack n plays in the room we were sleeping in.  Since we've started putting them in their cribs to sleep, we haven't slept in the same room with them.  If they see us, they won't got to sleep, so I was very nervous about the sleeping situation.  Luckily they slept all night and it went great!  We woke up Saturday and went to Mrs. Shira's for breakfast.  They had toys for the babies to play with and played with the babies while we ate!  Then we went back to the house for naps.  When they woke up they played for awhile and we had lots of visitors!  My grandma's cousin Patty, my mom's Uncle and his family, and our old neighbors, and my step dad's friend, Stan, all came to visit.

Kain took us to Mrs. Shira's house to swim.

This was the babies' first time in a big swimming pool.  They really liked it! There were 2 baby floats there so we rotated the babies in those.  April and Kain gave the babies these cute hats they're wearing!

Even though we weren't planning on putting Ella in the pool, we put her swimsuit on so she and I could lounge by the pool.  We put our feet in the hot tub and she looked sad staring at everyone in the pool.  We decided to let her go in and just try to keep water away from her ear.

Tripp is in the orange float, Emily is driving the boat float and Ella is with Mark

Alaina and Kain wanted in the picture!

Then we played a little more before their last nap

Tripp liked to touch Kain's face

Ella loved the E.T. doll!

The 2nd night wasn't as great as the first.  I think they were so exhausted the first night that they slept fine, but last night there were some disturbances.  I don't think the pack n plays are very comfortable so we are glad to have them back in their cribs now!  Hopefully they don't have to sleep in pack n plays for a very long time!

On Sunday we packed up and headed home!  On the way home we stopped in Jennings to have lunch and feed the babies.  My sister wanted a poboy so we took the babies into a restaurant for the first time ever!  Of course they only had 1 high chair available, so we brought 2 of the booster seats in and strapped them to the chairs!  We fed the babies bottles, solids and ate our own lunch.  We were stared at the entire time we were there, but they babies did really well!

Then we got back in the van and drove the rest of the way home.  We are so impressed with how good they were!  Mark keeps telling them that they are the greatest babies in the world and he is so proud of them!  While we don't plan on making long trips like this very often, I'm glad we got to go to visit family and so the babies could meet their Granny!  I enjoyed all of the firsts that we experienced with Emily, Ella and Tripp and I'm so proud of how great they were in the car!  Now we are home to our own beds and tomorrow we get back on our regular schedule!
