New Year 2015

I did this last year, so I'll do it again this year!  (I'm sorry I can't add pictures. For some reason the app is not loading my pictures!)

Ahhh 2014...

It's been an amazing year!  If I'm being honest, a year ago I didn't know what was going to happen.  Mark and I were not happy!  We were sleep deprived and NOT on the same page regarding anything!  Now here we are, again listening to white noise on a baby monitor, hoping that the fireworks don't wake up our babies, but we're happy.  So happy!  This past year has helped us grow closer together and closer to our children.  Speaking of, the children are amazing!  Just tonight, Tripp said "wow" while watching fireworks his daddy was setting off (a new word for Tripp is always a big deal)!  Ella started to sing her own theme song, the theme song to Ella the Elephant on Disney Junior (She says "Ella Ella" and bounces up and down), and Emily made it very clear to us that she is (still) the strong willed baby who DOES NOT like the booms that come with fireworks or being up past her bedtime!

We had lunch at Chic Fil A and talked about a year ago.  Lunch out with kids was not even a possibility!  They still had bottles every 3 hours, they did not eat solid foods, and they slept a lot!  Now, we accidentally skipped our morning snack, had lunch out, then had an interesting nap.  45 minutes after we put them in their cribs Emily was screaming. We looked at the monitor to find Tripp in Emily's crib.  She was not in the mood for company.  We had to go in to move him back into his crib.  We could not stop laughing!  He just wanted to cuddle...  Poor guy.  We skipped our afternoon snack to go to my Aunt Dee's house, where we learned that they love shrimp balls!  Then off to Nonna's (my mother in law's) house to see fireworks and visit with family.

This past year has brought us babies sitting up, crawling, walking, talking, and turning ONE year old!!!  It's been so interesting and so much fun!  We've taken our first 2 family road trips and lost a beloved family member, our Granny.  The kids have watched lots of football and learned how to eat with forks!  They've learned so much and are such a joy, I can't even explain it!  I've been so tired I thought I couldn't go on, but I did.  I've thought for sure I couldn't make it through more teething, then molars came in.  I've learned that whenever I get comfortable with our routine, it will change.  I've learned that whenever I've thought, "I can't do this anymore, I'm losing my mind," something usually changes for the better.  I've learned that no matter how many times I say "No no," someone will still do what I've asked them not to do, because it's funny!

My previous thoughts on Nature vs Nurture have gone out the window.  I know first hand!  I had 3 babies, who have been nurtured the same way, and nature is a much bigger part than I originally thought!  Emily is so stubborn.  She just does whatever she wants and expects you to follow suit. Ella is moody.  She can be so mad, then the happiest kid you've ever met, you just never know!  Tripp is the baby.  He is happy but he whines and expects you to give him what he wants.  He has the big blue eyes to draw you in!  It's no joke, people!  Nature is a very big part of it!

My year has been so amazing.  I've loved (pretty much) every minute of it and I can't wait for 2015!  I know it will be challenging with 3 kids that all have 3 very different personalities, but I'm ready for it!  Mark and I have never been happier and I don't think our kids have been happier, either!

15 months

The babies are 15 months old!  They are growing and learning so much!  They are picking up new words and gestures and getting more adorable every single day :)  When we say "let's go night night," they grab our hands and walk to their cribs in their room.  They love to play outside and watch airplanes fly over our house.  When they see a football game on TV, they all throw their hands up to signal "touchdown," and then clap.  They shake their finger "no" when asked, "What does JJ (Watt) say?"  They give each other hugs and kisses and are so sweet!

Emily

Weighed 25 lb 5 oz on 12/8/14
Says: mama, daddy, sister, bubba, thank you, all done, no no, apple, cat, dog, meow, moo, bye bye, hi, out, tower, sit down, turtle, Christmas tree, Santa, Ho Ho Ho, all done
Emily is strong-willed
She is very vocal. She talks and talks all day long. We usually have no clue what she's saying, but a lot of times it seems very serious.  She tells her siblings what to do and tells me "doe doe" (this is how she says "no no") when I tell her to sit down or stop doing something.
Emily tries to sing when songs are on.  It's very funny!
She is very clumsy.  Sometimes she falls when she's just walking!
She loves to climb. Once she realized that Tripp was climbing, she decided she needed to do it, so she just jumped right in.  She now finds new things to climb on that Tripp hasn't even found yet!
Emily loves to be read to.  She will sit and listen to a whole book, then take it, sit down, and flip through the pages while pointing to pictures and making sounds (she thinks she's reading).

Ella

Weighed 22 lb 3 oz on 12/8/14
Says: mama, daddy, bubba, bye bye, Mimi, Pawpaw, meow, moo, dog, out, turtle, Mickey, hi, shoe, uh-oh, thank you, sissy, Ho Ho Ho, Santa
Ella is such a happy girl!  She has the biggest smile :)
She waddles like a duck when she runs.  It's adorable!  Her legs are so short and she gets so excited when she's running!
Ella has tiny feet.  She still wears a size 3.5 shoe
When Ella sees someone come into the house she says "Hi!" in a high pitched voice
Ella will do anything that Emily does.  She is a copy cat!

Tripp

Weighed 23 lb 15 oz on 12/8/14
Says: mama, ma, no no, night night
Tripp loves to dance!  When music comes on he can't help but move his hips and clap his hands. If he's really into it he will try to snap his fingers.  It's the cutest thing ever!
Tripp likes to cuddle and give me kisses!
He loves books!  He likes to sit on our laps while we read to him.
Tripp is very good about sharing.  He will share his snacks with all of us!
He loves his sisters.  He likes to hold their hands in the car and while we walk to their room to go to sleep.
He loves his toy cars, trains and airplanes.  He pushes them around while making "vroom" noises.
Tripp loves our new fish tank.

Developmental Pediatrician and ECI referral

A few weeks ago we took the babies to the developmental pediatrician to follow up since they were premature. They all did great!  Emily's speech is at the level of an 18 month old and Ella scored ahead of her actual age on her tests, too.  Tripp did well with all of it except speech. The only consonant sounds he makes are ma wa and ya.  He was referred to Early Childhood Intervention for an evaluation to see if he qualified for speech therapy.

The ECI team came to our house to do the evaluation. I had my grandma come over to entertain the girls so that I could be with Tripp.  The girls were in the playroom and we were in the living room with the therapists.  It took him a few minutes but he came out of his shell and started to play with the women and their toys.  They did a few little games with him to try to get him to make sounds and it worked!  He mostly said "yayayayaya," but they said that for his corrected age that's fine.  (Technically he's only 12 months old if you adjust his age to account for his prematurity).  They could hear the girls talking in the other room and mentioned that they were very talkative (WHAT?) so that might be an issue for him.  Also, boys tend to be slower talkers.  The occupational therapist said that by watching him she thinks he has the personality of an observer, which might be why he isn't speaking much.  His cognitive reception and attention span scored at the level of a 20 month old, so that was very impressive!  It turns out he does not need any kind of therapy, he just needs some one on one time with Mark or me, away from his loud-mouthed sisters, to play and read and observe.  They kept saying that he's very charming and once he figures out the word "mine," he will say it constantly.  Any time they tried to take a toy from him he resisted more than a normal 12 month old would resist (this is due to his sisters stealing his toys so often).

We should be done with the developmental pediatrician and ECI unless we have any other concerns that come up.  Hopefully we don't have to see them again!

12 months!

We have 12 month old babies!  I'm not sure how this year has gone by so quickly, but I'm hoping time slows down soon.  They are at such a cute age where they play together, they're starting to understand commands, and they talk to us and to each other.

This was AFTER they got their shots. They weren't in the mood for pictures.

This is the last picture of them wearing plain white onesies with stickers on them sitting in front of their chevron blankets. It was a very sad photo shoot for me

Emily

Emily weighs 22 pounds 7 ounces (85th percentile) and is 30.25 inches long (85th percentile).  She can walk and she walks everywhere!  She no longer wants to crawl, only walk!  Emily's favorite word to hear is "pretty."  If she gets fussy, you can tell her how pretty her hair is, or her shoes or her shirt, and she will smile so big!  She is already a little diva and loves her ponytails (they are very tiny) and bows.  She loves her pretty silver shoes and her shirts with Minnie on them.  I tell her at least 50 times a day, "you're the silliest girl I know."  She laughs so hard!  She loves to laugh and be chased. She knows she isn't supposed to go into the kitchen if the gate is down but she does and giggles, waiting for you to chase her.  She tries to play peek a boo but puts her hands over her ears instead of her eyes. It's very funny. I have to say "peek a boo" when she uncovers her ears and she laughs so hard!  Emily has recently started dancing and loves to clap while she dances.  Emily loves to be praised. If you tell her she did a good job, she will smile so big and do whatever she did over and over again to continue being praised.  If her siblings are praised, she will do whatever they just did to also get praised!  If Ella walks to me and I tell her "good job," Emily will walk as fast as she can and collapse into my arms to make sure I know that she can walk, too!  She says "sister" and actually associates the word with Ella.  She will walk up to Ella and pat her head as she says it.  It is adorable!  She is just a happy little girl who makes us laugh constantly!

Waiting for her paradise for playing the xylophone

Got her praise... Big smile!  Then she does it again!

More big Emily smiles!

And more... She smiles a lot!

Emily's first ponytail.  It wasn't very successful

We told her Tripp's hat was sooooo pretty so she kept it on for awhile!

Ella

Ella weighs 20 pounds 1 ounce (55th percentile) and is 29.75 inches (72nd percentile).  She is catching up in both height and weight!  Ella is walking slowly. She isn't a professional yet but she's getting there!  Ella is our moody baby.  Sometimes she just wants to cry and whine and sometimes she is the happiest baby you've ever met. I think it depends on how much she's slept, if she woke up on her own or was woken up, and what you're offering her to eat. She no longer wants to be fed.  We took them to a Mexican restaurant and she refused to let my mom feed her beans and rice.  That's right, we had to lay rice on the table for her to feed herself (I cleaned the table with Clorox wipes first).  She finally allowed my mom to feed her once she was offered a delicious burrito on a fork. Ella's favorite game to play is to throw her cup or pieces of food onto the floor during meal time and say "uh-oh."  Luckily she says "uh-oh" before the toss, too, so we can grab the cup as fast as possible before it hits the floor.  Ella is really loving playing with her siblings lately but if they get too close she cries like someone is physically hurting her.  There was one day that she decided she would scream and cry anytime one of her siblings simply touched her arm.  It was a very loud and stressful day at our house!  When she's happy she's so happy and smiles and chases her brother and sister and wants to cuddle. Occasionally she will walk up to me and just put her head on my shoulder and smile at me.  It's adorable!

Ella's first ponytail

One of her sweeter moments. She crawled over and just laid down on me

Ella loves Gwen!

Ella looks very different with a ponytail. I love being able to see her whole face!

Go Texans!

Sleeping on Daddy when she had an ear infection

Ella puts her head down a pillow and waits for me to say "night night Ella."  Then she pops her head up and I say "good morning Ella!"  She does this over and over and over and over again!

She likes to sit on my lap!

Sitting in the new truck

Ella went off-roading

Daddy got the girls a pink car

Tripp

Tripp weighs 21 pounds 5 ounces (50th percentile) and is 30.75 inches long (83rd percentile).  He is tall and very skinny!  Tripp is walking and loving it but he is still figuring it out.  He is starting to get very brave and walk more but he still falls!  He is just all boy.  That's the best way to describe him.  He's sweet and likes to give me kisses and sit on my lap, but he's also rough and... all boy!  He loves when Mark plays rough with him and chases him on the bed and pulls him back to him.  It's so fun to see him squeal when they play!  He still smiles so big with his mouth wide open, never exposing his top 4 teeth!  Tripp loves his boy toys. We have plenty of dolls and girl toys but he has no interest in them.  I don't push him toward any toys in particular but he only wants to play with his car, balls, blocks, a drum or his rubber snake.  He will not hesitate to grab a doll and throw it to the side if one of the girls left it in his car and he finds it later.  Tripp loves books so much!  A lot of times during the day I'm on the floor playing with the girls and look over to find him laying on the floor flipping through pages.  He actually turns the pages to look at all of the pictures.  It's so adorable!

My mom bought him a shirt that says "strikingly handsome."  It's true...

He likes to sprawl out on pillows and point to things.

Tripp loves the Toodles that Mark made for their birthday party. When we say "Oh Toodles," he goes to the fireplace and stares at it!

More lounging on pillows

He didn't understand why Daddy wouldn't let him in the garbage can

One morning Mark was drinking coffee, so Tripp grabbed a tea cup from the play area and pretended he was drinking coffee with Daddy. It was so cute!

JJ Watt jerseys with Pawpaw

Checking out the line at Target!

Tripp will use whatever he can find to help him climb on the furniture. If one of his sisters happens to be there, he will use them.

Reading a book

Another book (he does this a lot)

Tripp's favorite book is Brown Bear.  When my friend told me that Gymboree had an Eric Carle event with a Brown Bear shirt, I just had to get it for him.  He loves it!

Tripp in a tub

He remembered he still wanted to be in it once he saw Emily get in.

Staring at the fan

He decided he loves the fan!

At the doctor with his first ear infection

Sick at home.  He wanted to just sit in the backyard and watch the rain.

Then he passed out on Nonna.  It was a hard day for him

One of his favorite new things: the Mickey couch!

Tripp loves to push things and Emily hasn't figured out how to push herself on this thing, she needs me to push her.  I showed him how to push Emily :)

Tripp gets on the couch so much I had to teach him how to sit on his bottom and how to get off.  He's very good at it now.

This was the day that the girls both decided that if anyone touched them they would scream bloody murder.  Poor Tripp didn't understand why Emily screamed when he touched her head.  He was confused all day long.

Pawpaw showed him how to lay on the sofa and watch football while drinking his bottle.

He needed to climb on the back of the truck

Group pictures

Tripp does not like when he sees the girls in his car.  He will sit on top of them until they get mad and climb out.

This month our neighbors' air conditioning went out so my friend Rebecca and her twins stayed with us for a few days.  I watched another friend's twins one of those mornings so we had 7 babies eating snacks off of the floor... I had just swept :)

Usually Emily, Ella and Tripp drop their food on the floor and the puppies eat it.  When H and M dropped their food, my babies ate it.  It was weird but they thought it was funny!

Hanging out with friends!

Emily telling Ella that it's her turn to sit in the car.  When I say "telling," I mean pulling Ella's shirt to force her out.

They got pirate and mermaid diapers!

Watching the Texas State game with their Bobcat shirts and diapers

We went for a walk one morning because it was so pretty outside. When we got to the end of our street it started pouring rain.  Luckily a man who lives on the corner let us go onto his porch to wait out the rain before heading home.  He even gave us a towel to dry off the babies!  This was them after we got home and Mark took the canopy off of their wagon.

Ready for the Texans!

All 3 reading

Playing with boxes

We took the babies to their friends Jim and Hudson's first birthday party.  They had lots of fun wearing Thomas hats and eating cake for the first time ever!  We learned that Ella loves sugar!

After their 1 year shots we took them to get frozen yogurt

Then we went to Aldi to get milk
